The Executive Directorate of International Relations (DERI) received a delegation from North China Electric Power University (NCEPU) on April 23, 2026. The visit focused on deepening strategic partnerships in education, research, and innovation, with an emphasis on the energy sector.

The NCEPU delegation was led by Chancellor Wang Qinghua and included academic and administrative leaders from key areas such as energy engineering, computing, and international cooperation.

The program began with a technical visit to the “CampusGrid” project, developed in partnership between Unicamp and CPFL Energia. The initiative focuses on the implementation of a smart electrical microgrid, serving as a living laboratory for research in energy transition and sustainable systems.

Subsequently, an institutional meeting was held at Educorp, bringing together leaders from Unicamp, NCEPU, and CPFL Energia. The meeting was marked by the signing of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), formalizing the joint intention to develop collaborative actions between the three institutions.

During the meeting, Dr. Pablo Hernandez, representative of the Paulista Center for Studies in Energy Transition (CPTEn) at Unicamp, gave a presentation on CPTEn's activities and research lines, highlighting initiatives focused on energy transition, technological innovation, and sustainability on campus.

Among the main topics discussed were the creation of a Sino-Brazilian Institute of Excellence in Engineering, the development of a Clean Energy Innovation Center, and the promotion of trilateral projects involving universities, academia, and the productive sector.

Unicamp was represented by the general coordinator, Fernando Antonio Santos Coelho, and by Heloísa Claro, advisor to DERI, in addition to professors and researchers linked to strategic centers such as the Interdisciplinary Center for Energy Planning (NIPE), the Paulista Center for Studies in Energy Transition (CPTEn), and the Paulista Center for Innovation in Public Lighting (CePIL).

This initiative highlights the potential for collaboration between Brazil and China in developing innovative and sustainable solutions aligned with the challenges of the global energy transition. The expectation is that the decisions made during the meeting will result in concrete projects in the coming years, expanding the university's international reach and promoting significant scientific and technological impact.
