Professor Alfredo Cesar Barbosa de Melo

Alfredo Cesar Melo is a tenured professor of Brazilian Literature and Culture at the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp), Brazil. From 2008 to 2013, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago. During the 2017-2018 academic year, he was a visiting scholar at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal). He was also Joaquim Nabuco Brazilian Studies Visiting Professor at Stanford University in the Winter Quarter of 2020. Professor Melo is currently a CNPq (Brazilian Scientific Council) fellow. His interests include intellectual history, postcolonial studies, and the Brazilian essayistic tradition. At Unicamp he is the coordinator and co-founder of Kaliban - Center for Postcolonial Studies and World Literature.
