Master’s (12 to 36 months) and Doctorate (24 to 72 months)

Students are selected from candidates from all over Brazil and abroad in a selection process consisting of a fellowship examination, course transcript and letters of recommendation for both the master’s and doctorate.

The main goal of the doctoral program is to prepare researchers in applied mathematics, who will work as lecturers in universities, in research centers or as specialists in the application of mathematics in the labor market.

The main areas of research in the department of applied mathematics are applied analysis; numerical analysis; biomathematics; combinatorics and number theory; mathematical physics; computational geophysics; computational optimization methods; operational research; and inverse problems.
