Unicamp’s rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles received, last Friday (1/4), a delegation from the British Consulate led by deputy consul general Lisa Weedo. The purpose of the visit was to discuss strategies to intensify scientific collaborations and exchanges between the University and UK institutions. Participating in the meeting were the advisor to the Vice-rector of Research (PRP), Leonardo Tomazeli; the executive director of International Relations, Osvaldir Taranto; the executive director of Inova, Ana Frattini; Rafael Dias and Paula de Sena, respectively advisor and manager of Unicamp-UK relations of the Unicamp International Office (Deri).

During the meeting, the agenda of sustainable development and initiatives such as Hids and Inova were discussed. Those were pointed as initiatives which put Unicamp in the international scene spotlight due to their approach to industry and intellectual property.

Osvaldir Taranto highlighted that, in the last 10 years, more than 100 research projects were developed from the collaboration between Unicamp and British Universities such as Oxford, Bath, Cardiff and Birmingham, with the last two constituting themselves as strategic partners of Unicamp. The director also emphasized the mobility of faculties, students, and technical-administrative staff as important exchange bounds.

Cristina Hori, Science and Innovation manager at the British Consulate, pointed to Unicamp as a gateway for British researchers and recalled already consolidated collaborations, such as the Cambridge Enterprise method, used by Inova, and the Structural Genomics Consortium (SGC), which encourages open access in research projects.
